- To strengthen English and soft skills for engineering success focusing on practical applications.
The Department of Humanities at Jabalpur Engineering College evolved with the introduction of English, which has been an integral part of the curriculum since the college's inception in 1947. Initially, English was taught to undergraduate students in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics engineering, laying the foundation for the department's growth and development. Over time, JEC introduced more branches to meet industry demands, incorporating English across all nine engineering disciplines and the MCA program. This laid the foundation for the Humanities Department, which now offers theoretical and practical courses in seminars, soft skills, and communication skills, along with theoretical courses in professional ethics and managerial economics at the undergraduate level, reflecting its gradual evolution.
Today, the department enhances students’ proficiency in spoken and written English, tailored to the needs of engineers, while equipping them with essential skills in linguistics, communication, and soft skills to excel in the global workforce. Its well-equipped English Communication Lab further strengthens students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. The Department of Humanities integrates linguistic, humanistic, social, and behavioural insights to develop well-rounded, highly employable students prepared for professional success.
