Dr. Sudhir Mishra Returns to JEC: A Journey from Alma Mater to BrahMos: 30 August 2025
On August 30, 2025, Jabalpur Engineering College experienced a proud moment when Dr. Sudhir Mishra, CEO of BrahMos and an alumnus of JEC, returned to his alma mater to inspire the students. The Jashan Auditorium was packed with eager listeners, excited to hear one of India’s leading defence scientists. The auditorium itself holds special meaning—it was gifted by Shri Ajai Choudhry, co-founder of HCL and Padma Bhushan awardee, in memory of his parents. His contribution reflects the strong bond JEC alumni share with their college. The programme became even more special with the presence of several proud alumni on the stage: Dr. Veerendra Kumar, Director of Technical Education, is shaping policies that improve technical education across Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Rajeev Chandak, Principal of JEC, is leading the college into a new era of research and innovation. Dr. P.K. Jhinge, the former Principal, is remembered for his significant contributions to JEC’s growth and achievements. Dr. Sudhir Mishra, DRDO Advisor and former Director General of BrahMos, delivered an inspiring lecture on the theme “Defence, AI, and Careers: Vision through Operation Sindhoor.”His words were not just information but a heartfelt call to action, urging students to stay prepared for life’s challenges just as nations must prepare for theirs. He explained that Operation Sindhoor was unlike conventional wars—it was fought without visuals, monitored only on radar, and carried out from great distances. Reflecting on this, he stressed the need to learn from the past, strengthen our defence, and invest in new technologies. Dr. Mishra spoke passionately about the future of drones, describing them as the defining technology of the next 15 years. With nearly 400 companies in India working in this field, he encouraged students to consider careers in drone technology, especially as AI-enabled drones are set to transform defence in the future. He also highlighted cybersecurity as another vital area where young talent can play a major role. Proudly, he shared India’s achievement in creating a fully indigenous Integrated Air Defence Control System, developed by DRDO and manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited. He also spoke about the Akash Ganga project and the Akash missile system, underlining the nation’s growing strength in defence technology.n conclusion, Dr. Mishra’s words left a deep impression on students and faculty alike. His message conveyed that true strength lies not only in weapons but also in courage, readiness, and innovation.
The lecture was coordinated by Dr. Shilpa Saxena and Dr. Kamal Kumar Kushwaha, with Dr. Saxena delivering the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the audience giving a standing ovation to Dr. Sudhir Mishra.
