Jabalpur Engineering College Celebrates 79th Independence Day with Pride and Progress: 15 August 2025
Jabalpur Engineering College (JEC) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with unparalleled enthusiasm, patriotic fervour, and a profound sense of national pride. Students, faculty, staff, and NCC cadets came together to honour the spirit of freedom and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by countless heroes for the nation. On the eve of Independence Day, the college campus was beautifully illuminated in the colours of the national flag, creating a patriotic atmosphere. In his address to the gathering, Dr Chandak delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on JEC’s academic, research, and institutional achievements. He began by saluting the brave soldiers safeguarding India’s borders in challenging terrains such as Leh, Ladakh, Siachen, and the North-East. Their courage and dedication, he remarked, served as guiding principles for building a Viksit Bharat. He highlighted that the Training and Placement Office had successfully facilitated the placement of 410 students, with Bharat Electronics Limited offering the highest package of ₹12.5 lakh, demonstrating the high calibre of JEC graduates.
Departmental Highlights:
Computer Science Department: The department achieved a remarkable milestone with an ₹18 crore sanctioned grant for the construction of a new building, marking a major step in its progress. It successfully organised TechBlitz 2025, which saw the participation of over 500 students. Alumni from Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Intel, and ISRO also mentored students, adding great value to their learning. Additionally, a patent filed by Dr. Saurabh Singh and colleagues strengthened the department’s innovation profile. These achievements were made possible with the guidance of Dr. Jitendra Singh Thakur, HOD, whose efforts continue to motivate both faculty and students. Physics Department: The department, mentored by Dr Kamal Kumar Kushwaha, HOD, gained international recognition through a collaborative project with Qatar University on developing reusable, self-disinfecting gloves during the COVID-19 pandemic. It hosted an International Conference on Nobel Materials and Applications, featuring experts from IITs, NITs, ISRO, and other premier institutions. It also signed an MoU with NITTTR Bhopal for advanced training and contributed to drafting a new research policy. Dr. S.K. Mahobia and colleagues filed a patent, enhancing the department’s research credentials Electronics and Telecommunication Department: The department established an advanced IoT & Robotics Lab under the IIT Bombay E-Yantra initiative, led by HOD, Dr. Bhavna Jhariya and Dr. Kanchan Cecil. It gained access to EDA tools under the Government of India’s Chip-to-Startup (C2S) program, enhancing research and innovation capacity. Students Sarthak Jain and Sanskar Jain won first prize in a national-level robotics competition at IIT Bombay. The department also organised a national conference. Nikhil Kumar Das secured first place in the All-India “Jaane Bharat” Quiz Competition. Apurva Girdoniya participated in the 10m Rifle National-Level Junior Women’s Championship, and Adarsh Belvanshi was selected for the Mukherjee Fellowship (M.P.). Information Technology Department: The IT Department, under the leadership of Dr. Mamta Lambert, HOD, organised the Prahaar Coding Contest for the first time and successfully conducted the Vibe Coding Event. Swati Jain, an 8th-semester student, was selected for a Master’s in Astrophysics at Cambridge University. Anshika Jain of the 5th semester won the State-Level Chess Championship and is currently representing JEC at the Inter-University Chess Tournament. Additionally, IT students secured 15th position in the Google Agentic AI Hackathon Program, while Hemant Kushwah, a 7th-semester student, emerged as the runner-up at Hack Crux Hackathon 2025.
The Artificial Intelligence Department: Around 20 students qualified for the GATE and secured admission to premier institutions, including IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Indore. In collaboration with CloudJini, 18 students received specialized training in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Under the guidance of Dr. Agya Mishra, Head of the Department, five students successfully developed the RISHTA Portal, which was deployed at the Global Skill Park during the Global Investor Summit 2025. Electrical Engineering Department: The department showed academic excellence by successfully organizing a National Conference and a National Seminar. Several students secured admission to M.Tech programs at IIT Jodhpur and other reputed institutions, while five students earned prestigious internships. A significant academic milestone was also achieved when a research scholar was awarded a Doctorate. Furthermore, Dr. Chandak appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. Shailja Shukla, Head of the Department, for her consistent engagement with higher authorities to resolve key issues effectively. Mathematics Department: The department celebrated the legacy of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan with a special seminar on his birth anniversary. Dr. O.P. Chauhan, Head of Applied Mathematics, along with colleagues, filed a patent while efficiently serving as JEC’s Registrar. The department further distinguished itself by conferring a Ph.D. degree and contributing to academia through the publication of several research papers in reputed journals.
Industrial Production Department: The department achieved a 100% result, reflecting consistent academic excellence. Dr. Sanjay Soni, HOD, received the International Award for Excellence in Nanotechnology and the Youth Innovation Empowerment 2025 Award for the department’s remarkable contributions. The department also organized INERTIA, JEC’s cultural programme, showcasing students’ creativity and talent. Civil Engineering Department: The department made substantial contributions through consultancy services to key industries and government organizations, including the Railways, Vehicle Factory, and COD, generating significant internal revenue. Its work under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) earned national recognition for JEC.
The Principal appreciated the Examination and Valuation Team, where Prof. Arun Pachori and Dr. Anubha Maheshwari carried out their responsibilities with sincerity, ensuring the timely declaration of results despite staff constraints. He also commended the Counselling Committee, which, under the guidance of Dr. Samar Upadhaya, worked with dedication and commitment to support students. Concluding his address, he urged students to acquire knowledge, skills, and talent so that, in the future, companies would compete for their services, giving them the freedom to choose their path. To inspire them further, he recalled a couplet: “Elevate your selfhood to such a level that before shaping your destiny, God Himself asks His servant: tell me, what is your desire?” The 79th Independence Day celebrations at JEC reflected patriotism, institutional excellence, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation, motivating all members of the college to contribute to a brighter and developed India
